Meet the Team
Maggi Brooker
Creative Director/Owner
Maggi began working for Creating a Scene in 2009 as an office assistant while completing her business degree at the University of Winnipeg. In 2012, an opportunity arose to purchase the company, and she proudly stepped into the role of owner. Although she had no prior experience in the special events industry, Maggi quickly immersed herself in learning the business and discovered a true passion for creativity, design, and problem-solving, bringing beautiful ideas to life through unforgettable events. Over the past 15 years, Creating a Scene has grown significantly in both operations and capacity, evolving into a leader in the local special events industry. The company specializes in unique event décor rentals and services, offering an extensive catalogue of products to bring every vision to reality. Maggi is grateful to work alongside a talented and dedicated team whose creativity and commitment help turn clients’ dreams into extraordinary experiences.
Q and A time:
What are some memorable projects you’ve worked on?
I’m proud of every event we’ve produced over the years, but I especially enjoy large-scale projects where we design and build custom décor elements for corporate and private clients. These projects often come with exciting challenges, but the payoff is incredibly rewarding. The opportunity to create something completely unique pushes our creativity and craftsmanship to the next level. I believe these specialized builds have helped set a high standard for our work—something we take great pride in. We’re grateful that our clients trust us and often give us the creative freedom to design and deliver distinctive, high-quality experiences.
Outside of work, what is life like?
The past decade has been devoted to raising a young family, and life is wonderfully busy with two little ones! I’m fortunate to have a very supportive husband, parents, and extended family who are always willing to step in and help—whether at home or in the business. We have a close circle of friends we love spending time with, and whenever we can, we escape to the cottage near Kenora to relax and recharge.
Matthew Powers
Warehouse Production Manager
Matthew responded to an online job posting in 2010 and was hired as Warehouse Manager at Creating a Scene by the company’s previous owner. When Maggi took over in 2012, she knew immediately that Matthew’s talent and dedication were invaluable to the team. Since then, he has played an integral role in the company’s growth and continued success. Creative, artistic, and largely self-taught in design and prop building, Matthew has helped conceptualize and independently produce some of Creating a Scene’s most unique and sought-after décor rentals. As the warehouse team has grown in recent years, he has taken on a mentorship role—training new staff while dedicating more time to large-scale custom builds, which remains a true passion of his.
Q and A time:
What are some memorable projects you’ve worked on?
One of my first major builds was a 15-foot-tall Eiffel Tower prop, which remains a standout project for me. Over the years, I’ve also had the opportunity to install increasingly large Christmas trees during the holiday season — we’re currently up to 30 feet tall! Other memorable experiences include multiple warehouse relocations and large-scale builds such as designing and constructing a parade float from scratch. Each project has brought new challenges and opportunities to push creativity even further.
Outside of work, what is life like?
I enjoy playing music with friends and recording songs for my personal project, Midnight Review Presents. I love spending time with my family and having fun with my two boys. In my spare time, you’ll often find me gardening, painting, collecting, or watching classic films on VHS.
